THE PHARAOHS TUTANKHAMUN'S TOMB
The ancient Egypt was ruled by the Pharaohs and the pharaohs were the
powerful kings. In the ancient Egyptian culture, the Kings of Egypt were
considered and were worshiped as Gods or Lord. The word "Pharaohs"
means the great house or the palace of the kings. The Pharaohs or the kings are
most famous today for the temples, mummy / mummification, and pyramids / tombs.
the archaeologists were discovered the history including the treasures of the
pharaohs during the excavation of earth. Recently, the authority of Egypt has
newly discovered chamber and many mummies with coffins and has displayed those
mummies at museum.
The pharaoh of the Egypt wielded enormous power and control over their
kingdom including by making laws, set taxes, lead the army into battle and
judge legal cases. Indirectly you may say that pharaohs were all in one and
controlled by either hook or cook.
The kings had many responsibilities for his people such as he was
thought to control the flooding of the rivet Nile which was essential for
surviving of the kingdom or civilization. The water of the river was diverted
to the agricultural field for harvesting. In case disaster or famine struck,
the pharaoh had to beg before the gods for assistance and might be blamed by
the farmer if the situation did not improve.
After death, the Kings were mummified under mysterious circumstances and
to preserve their bodies in the afterlife. Some of the earliest pharaohs of the
kingdom were laid to rest in vast pyramids while other pharaohs were buried in
underground of tombs.
Who is Tutankhamun?
Tutankhamun was an ancient Egyptian Pharaoh and who ruled over Egypt as
18th Dynasty from 1345 BC to 1325 BC. the name "Tutankhamun" was
called to the Pharaoh Tut and popular as Boy King. Pharaoh Tut was ruled over
for 10 years and died on 1324 BC. Today Tutankhamun was famous for his
instruments / articles such as Plan, Curse, Sarcophagus, Golden Treasure
Coffin, Mask, Golden Wall Paintings, seal and More. he was become the king at
the age of 9 years old.
Who and when discovered the Secrets Treasury?
Tutankhamun was the as pharaoh at the age of nine (he is the only one
who became pharaoh at the age of nine years). He died in 1324 BC after
nine year became pharaoh. The family member of Tutankhamun had buried him in an
underground tomb in the valley on the west bank of Nile river. The British
archaeologist Howdrd Carter was excavated and discovered the tombs of the
burial treasure, precious artefacts lay in the year 1922 (26th November 1922).
Mr Carter was born at Kensington, London in the year 1874. the archaeologist
Howard Carter was started his work in Egypt in the year of 1891 at the age of
17 years old, but he was successful to the Secret Chamber which is called
Burial Chamber on 26th November 1922. such discovery makes him very popular and
after the death of Mr. Carter, the research about King Tut is still going on.
Why mummification?
The ancient
Egyptians was believed that the spirit of Kings would suffer in afterlife due
or dead body rotted or was damaged. Therefore, The Egyptians were arranged
for royal bodies should be preserved after death. The techniques for the
mummification was so well that many of these mummies are still intact. the Tomb
of Tut was located at West Bank of the Nile Valley of the Kings, Luxor, Egypt.
The
mummification process was an important ritual / traditional process and this
ritual had completed by priests. As per the instructions of the priest, one
would wear a jackal (God of Anubis was considered as god of dead) mask which
was called the funeral mask and believed that the god who guided spirits of the
dead. During that period the religious rituals were controlled by the priest.
the funeral mask was the traditional and ritual culture of Egyptian.
Journey of the dead
The Egyptians beloved that the sole of the dead persons undertook a
perilous journey to another world. And it was also believed that after death,
the sole of the dead person judge by the God Anubis who was considered in name
is god of the death. The god Anubis would weigh the hearts of the death person
to measure their worth. The good people were rewarded with a happy afterlife,
but bad people were devoured by Ammit, a fearsome beast with the head of a
crocodile, the chest of a lion, the torso of a hippopotamus. on the basis of
their tradition, King Tut's funeral was completed by using of burial mask and
as per the instruction of Royal priest of King's family.
Tutankhamun's
tomb
The most mysterious is that the tomb. Tutankhamun's tomb was
undergrounded tomb where the underground building was built with the help of
rock cut walls. The wall was bare rock, chiselled to a smooth finish. For the
said construction took so many years to complete the tomb and the tomb
consisted with four rooms which were undergrounded including his royal
articles with royal body.
The main entrance or first entering of the tomb is on earth. The tomb
was cut into the rock of the valley floor. It was reached by flight of 16
numbers of steps which guided towards the main hall of the tomb. The
underground road is very narrow. At the end of the steps, there is a short
entrance corridor which is slopped towards downward and connect to the
tomb.
There is a
door or gate towards tomb. The said doorways were sealed with plaster to deter
robbers after the funeral.
The articles were gathered such as four chariots, rich fabrics would
provide clothes for the dead king afterlife, of jeweller gold couches with animal’s
heads, guardian statue and many more in the first room of the tomb.
Similarly, in second room was filled off with containers of luxurious
and expensive wines, oils and foods for the dead king.
And in another room was filled off with model boats which Egyptians were
believed to grow to full size in the afterlife. This room is important due to
some storage materials which shows the culture and religious of those periods.
This room also contained the king's most valuable treasures.
In this room the archaeologists found two smaller mummies. The
conclusion may arrive that those two mummies might be the children of the king
who died when they were young. Therefore, the said two mummies put in this room
and they are not known to other.
Most important of this room is a container where storing of organs. This
is a part of the process of mummification and during the mummification some
internal organs were removed from the dead body. Those organs were kept in a container
called canopic jars and housed in a shrine. The shrine for organs was
a wooden cover with different type of arts on that. The shrine covered
with gold. The jackal statue found in this room which represents Anubis God.
The Egyptians civilization were thought that God Anubis would guide the
king in afterlife. Therefore, they put this statue in this room with shrine.
The fourth room was the main room and this room was dedicated to
pharaoh. This room covered with mummy shrine. The walls of the burial chamber
were decorated with frescos depicting scenes of afterlife. The
shrine was gold painted wood with majestic arts and middle of the room was
a coffin of the pharaohs which was put after mummification. The first coffin
was sarcophagus painted wood.
The inner coffin of the pharaohs is called sarcophagus which was
constructed with solid gold. The total sarcophagus was 110 kg of pure
gold.
Where is the
royal sarcophagus now?
The scientists are still working over the coffin of
king Tut during restoration work. the mummy of king tut is located at Grand Egyptian
Museum. the said museum is open for the visitors.
