LIGHT DINNER VS OIL LAMP DINNER: CULTURE OF CANDLE LIGHT DINNER
Candle
light concept is derived from the Christian Culture. During the prayer in Church, the Christian
person are used Candle light. He “Candle light” is the symbol of holy. The “CANDLE LIGHT” symbolizes as the
darkness of life especially individual life, illumination and it is the symbol
of holy illumination of the spirit of truth. The candle light tradition is very
from religion to religion.
According
to the Collins English Dictionary “ the Candle light means a
meal (specially night time) for a couple which is illuminated by a candle or
candles in order to create a romantic mood”
The
candle light dinner concept discovered by the French. The elite class of people
celebrate their party by way of candle light dinner. In this party only elite
class of persons are allowed and put the candle light on the long table during
the dinner. Slowly this concept grows up popular and spread all over the world.

ABOUT
CANDLE LIGHT:
Initially
candle light was invented by the Chinese during the ancient civilization i.e.
200 BC. During the ancient era, the candle was made from the Whale fat. (the thick layer of fat
that keeps whales and other
large swimming mammals warm in the cold water). Due to manufacture cost of
candle was high, the use of candle was very limited and the Chinese elite class
like as kind, Minister, were used. But the Chinese did not know about the
candle light dinner.
Gradually
the technique has developed and during the late medieval era i.e. 13th
century, making candle was easier and made by a group of craftsmen. They were
used the pork fat for manufacture of candle specially manufacture in England
and France.

After
Chinese the concept of making candle learned by the England and France. A group
of craftsmen developed the concept of making candle from the pork fat. For them
it was not such costly like as whales fat. The candle cost was more therefore
only elite class of person like businessman, minister, king or any other elite
class of person used during the night hour.
Gradually
the use of candle light increased in the elite class and that turned to fashion
for them. The elite class of person had money to purchased the candle so the
initially used the candle light for occasional dinner party conducted by the
King or Queen of the England and France. This tradition of candle light concept
was generated and continue for a long period till the invention of electricity.
Slowly
the use of candle light as well as cost
of the candle light decreased and comes to the meddle class of person. The
fashion of candle light increased and used in marriage party, ceremony and
other function and dinner party.
The
concept of candle light dinner and romance was use by the England and French.
When the cost of candle light reduced, the elite class of people use for dinner
(Couple) in a room. Therefore we called that the concept of candle light dinner
is the western tradition. During that period they people of India were use oil
Lamp.
The
European colonization of America has changed the entire world and person of
America first learned concept of candle from the European. From that day the
candle light concept expand all over the world. The people of America was very
poor so they could not afford such huge amount for purchase of candle so they
invented the easy process for which the cost of candle might be reduce for use
of ordinary people.
ANCIENT
OIL LAMP CULTURE.
The
candle is amongst the old human inventions and these culture is continuation
process from last 3000 years age. The archeologist has found the evidence of
oil lamp culture during the empire of Chandragupta Maurya (Period from 321 BC
to 297 BC). During the ruling period of Chandragupta Maurya, Chanakya was the
greatest economist who controlled all the finance issue by him. In his book,
Chanakya described the use of oil lamp during night hour.
Prior to invention of
candle light by Chinese, India invited the Oil lamp during the period of 321 BC
to 297 BC. The concept of oil lamp in still continuing till date. Era of Chandragupta Maurya, the staffs of King
provided the oil to their citizen for using of lamp. When the candle light dinner concept was not
existed, the Indian were used the oil lamp for their dinner and it is called
the lamp dinner.
The
concept of candle light dinner comes very late to India and that concept also
brought by the England (British). Initially the candle light dinner was
conducted by the British ruler and the Indian King on their dinner. During same
time the Indian were use oil lamp for their dinner.
The
use of candle light is more safe and easy to use then the Oil lamp. When the
cost of candle light was reduced, the use of Oil lamp also reduced.
India
is the developing country and in many area till date has no electricity
facility for which they use the oil lamp or candle light till date during the
night hour. Now days where electricity facilities are now available, they use
oil Lamp because oil cost is less then const of candle light.The Government of India
has provide Ration (a fixed amount of a commodity officially allowed to each
person during a time of shortage, as in wartime). In the Ration, government
provides kerosene oil. The poor classes of people have no enough money to
provide candle.
At present, the
candle light dinner very common and used in everywhere. It is also very popular
in india also.
CONCLUSION
The
concept of candle light dinner comes during 13th century but prior
to that period, the Indian were use the Oil Lamp for their dinner. It may be
there is difference but the concept of candle light dinner is derived from the
Oil Lamp. The candle light concept of England and French was new thought and
they give the meaning new concept. In present generation maximum couple are
enjoying the candle light dinner because of their lover or to create romantic
atmosphere between the couple.
During
the ancient period people were celebrated candle light dinner in their house or
dining hall of the house but now days this culture expand to restaurants or
hotels and even the college student are availing this facility also. If you
think, the western culture have great
influence over the Indian culture.
